We are VERY EXCITED to announce huge awards at the IHSAE (Illinois High School Art Exhibition) General Art Exhibition on Sunday, Feb. 25 at the Zhou B. Art Gallery in Bridgeport. All 5 of our art students won multiple awards. OPRFHS competed against 124 other Illinois high schools who submitted 5 artworks in different categories (over 800 artworks all together). We won awards in ALL categories. Which meant we “swept” the awards and as the announcer explained, we were the ONLY school to win in EVERY CATEGORY we entered.
1. Jack Valenti, Best of Show, Pottery 2. Sophie Shaw, Best of Show, Mixed Media 3. Remy Gajewski, Honorable Mention, Photography + Early College Program Scholarship to New Hampshire Institute of Art 4. Adele Henning, Honorable Mention, Drawing + Early College Program Scholarship to American Academy of Art in Chicago 5. Audrey Baker, Honorable Mention, Sculpture In addition, adjacent to this show was the IHSAE Senior Exhibition at the Bridgeport Art Center where 8 of our seniors entered their art portfolios online and were offered numerous scholarships from art schools around the country. The 8 seniors who displayed one select piece of artwork from their portfolio were Emma Vejcik, Gillian Bockus, Grace Ciacciarelli, Hasani Cannon, Iris Nosek, Jane Leipold, Katharine Backes, Meaghan Hackett The total senior scholarship amount for Oak Park and River Forest High School is over $1,012,000.00 Finally, Jane Liepold’s sculpture artwork from the IHSAE Senior Exhibition was awarded a SILVER medal among the hundreds of artworks displayed at the Bridgeport Art Center. All artwork will be on display at Zhou B. Art Gallery and Bridgeport Art Center through Mar. 9. |
